How Warisan Came to Be
Warisan was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of legal practitioners who had spent years working on estate and succession matters and noticed a consistent pattern: families came to them overwhelmed, confused by legal language, and unsure whether they were being looked after properly.
The name Warisan — meaning inheritance or legacy in Malay — reflects the significance of what we handle. Behind every estate file is a family, often at one of the most difficult moments they will face together. We felt that legal guidance at such times should feel different: slower, warmer, and more transparent.
Since opening our office at Menara Worldwide, we have helped families across Peninsular Malaysia prepare wills, settle estates after a loss, and navigate the courts for grants of probate — always at the pace the family needs, never ours.
Our Mission
What We Are Here to Do
Our mission is straightforward: to make inheritance law accessible to ordinary Malaysian families. We do not believe that legal advice has to be intimidating or impersonal. Every family's situation is different, and every client deserves an adviser who listens first.
We cover the three areas where families most often need help — preparing a will before it is too late, administering an estate after a loss, and obtaining a grant of probate from the courts. In each case, we explain what is happening and why, and we never push a client toward a decision they are not ready to make.
"Every family's legacy deserves to be handled with the same care you would give a keepsake passed down through generations."
— Founding principle of Warisan

Our Expertise
Inheritance Law in Malaysia — What Families Should Know
Malaysian inheritance law draws from two parallel frameworks — the civil law system under the Probate and Administration Act 1959 and, for Muslim estates, the Syariah rules of Faraid distribution. Understanding which framework applies to which assets, and how the two interact, requires experience that goes well beyond a general legal practice.
A valid will prepared under Malaysian civil law must meet specific witnessing and execution requirements. For a Muslim testator, a wasiat (Islamic will) can address Harta Ikhtiar — assets that can be distributed according to the testator's wishes — while Faraid governs the portion that is distributed according to Islamic inheritance law. Getting this balance right from the outset saves families from complications later.
Estate administration in Malaysia typically involves obtaining a letter of administration or grant of probate from the High Court, identifying and valuing assets, settling debts and liabilities, and distributing the remainder to beneficiaries. For smaller estates, the Small Estate Distribution Act 1955 provides an alternative route through the Land Administrator. Each path has different timelines, requirements, and costs, and choosing the right one depends on the nature and value of the assets involved.
At Warisan, our knowledge of these processes has been built through years of handling matters of varying complexity — from straightforward wills for young families to multi-asset estates involving property, savings accounts, unit trusts, and EPF nominations. We understand the nuances and explain them in plain terms so that families can make informed decisions without feeling overwhelmed.
Our Kuala Lumpur office is well placed to serve families across the Klang Valley and, where appropriate, to advise on matters involving assets in other states. We are also experienced in liaising with Amanah Raya Berhad, the public trustee, when its involvement is relevant to an estate.
